Tennis player Naomi Osaka to invest in women's soccer
A gesture of greatness. From tennis to soccer. Naomi Osaka, world number 3, will invest in women's soccer, thus becoming the second tennis player to get involved with a team in that league (Serena Williams joined the Angel City FC megaproject).
The Japanese tennis player was presented as an investor in a video showing the highlights of her career. After this event, the 3-time Grand Slam winner stated the following: "The women who have invested in me growing up made me who I am today and I can't think where I would be without them". The presentation showed her titles she has won and used the slogan: "Courage unites us".
She also added her reasons for making this investment: "My investment in the North Carolina Courage goes far beyond just being an owner of the team. It is an investment in incredible women who are role models and leaders in their fields and an inspiration to all young female athletes."
As previously mentioned, Naomi is not the only tennis player to invest in a soccer club. Earlier, Serena Williams was involved in an operation in the National Women Soccer League. The American is part of an investment group in Angel City FC, a Los Angeles club.
Naomi was recently named by Forbes magazine as the highest paid athlete in history in a single season. With $37 million (30 million euros) earned during the 2019-2020 season, Osaka set a new record at the age of 23, surpassing great legends such as Maria Sharapova or Serena Williams.
