Memphis Depay could leave Corinthians due to the loss of a sponsor

The Dutch forward's €9.7 million contract depends exclusively on the investment from Esportes da Sorte, the main sponsor of "Timão."

Esportes da Sorte is a Brazilian sports betting company that became Corinthians' main sponsor in July of this year. The issue lies in the fact that the company is not registered as an authorized operator by the Brazilian government, and its owner was even arrested during an investigation into a group involved in illegal gambling and money laundering.

Just weeks before the CONMEBOL Sudamericana semifinal match against Racing Club, Corinthians could lose their star signing, as due to their poor financial situation, they may not be able to pay the nearly €10 million Memphis is set to earn over the two seasons of his contract.

Esportes da Sorte has until October 11 to regularize its status with the government, or else "Timão" will have to seek another sponsor and claim the corresponding termination fees from the company.
