CONMEBOL to Implement Financial Fair Play to Promote More Sustainable Clubs
Reelected CONMEBOL president Alejandro Domínguez announced that the organization will move forward with the implementation of Financial Fair Play in South American football. Inspired by the European model, the measure aims to prevent clubs from spending more than they earn, with the goal of strengthening the sport’s economy across the region.
“We don’t want indebted clubs, we want strong clubs. We want players to be paid on time and in full,” said Domínguez after confirming his continuation as head of the South American body.
Although no official start date has been set, the regulation is expected to promote greater financial transparency, prevent contractual breaches, and establish penalties for non-compliance.
