SS Lazio forced to cut ties with main sponsor over Serie A regulations
The Italian side terminated its contract prematurely with Polymarket, an online platform that operates as a prediction market.
League regulations prohibit clubs from displaying betting advertising on their shirts, and despite not being a traditional casino, Polymarket allows users to buy "probability shares" backed by cryptocurrencies.
Lazio reported that it will still collect the full amount for the season under the agreed contract, securing around €10 million of the total €19 million two-year deal.
Other Serie A clubs found ways to feature betting sponsors while bypassing regulations: both Inter Milan and AS Roma feature the "sports news" arms of betting companies like Betsson and Eurobet on their shirts.
