The "European NBA" is closer to becoming a reality

The American basketball league announced a series of advancements in conjunction with FIBA for the creation of a tournament with a similar format in the Old Continent.

Both entities reported that dialogues with clubs, owners, and investors will begin in January to define the participants of the future competition.

The project initially envisions a 16-team league, with 12 permanent spots and 4 rotating spots through a qualification system within FIBA competitions, aiming for sporting merit.

Another issue the NBA will take into account is the calendar, as it will be adapted so that all players can compete in local and national team tournaments during the year. The initial idea, subject to modifications, is for the league to begin in October 2027.

The project is part of an NBA plan to establish itself in different parts of the world, with the goal of capturing basketball market profits and developing players for the American league.
