NEOM, the most ambitious project in the world to boost sports

NEOM has been described as "the most ambitious project in the world," a land of the future in Saudi Arabia created to empower global talents and maximize the health and potential of humanity. Sport is an integral part of NEOM's philosophy, both at the elite level and at the grassroots level. Under this concept, we begin to understand a little more about this mega project of building the city of the future, designed to receive and celebrate the world's athletes, sports enthusiasts and thrill seekers of the world. The name "NEOM" is derived from two words. The first three letters form the ancient Greek prefix neo which means "new." The fourth letter is from the abbreviation of Mostaqbal, an Arabic word that means "future."

Following its public announcement on October 24, 2017 by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, NEOM hosted for the first time the first international beach sport tournaments and the first officially endorsed: Wakeboard World Cup. In addition, a FIFA Beach Soccer Cup tournament was held with the participation of selections such as Saudi Arabia, China, Egypt, England, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. During those days, Beach Rugby exhibition matches and a Beach Tennis event were also held.
