A women’s clothing brand will pay Olympic athletes to talk about their menstruation
The brand is Knix, which has launched a campaign for the Paris 2024 Olympics to break the stigma around menstruation in sports competitions. This initiative aims to highlight that menstruation remains a taboo in the world of sports. Megan Rapinoe, former soccer player and Olympic athlete, is the ambassador of this campaign.
The company will offer payments to athletes who speak publicly about their periods on social media, to the press, and in other media. Eligible athletes competing at national or international levels can receive up to $2,000.
The brand emphasizes that one in two teenage girls has skipped a practice or quit a sport due to their period, and that more than 64% of female athletes have felt uncomfortable talking about their periods with their coaches.
