Why does Javier Mascherano wear different brand clothing from the players?
The coach of the Argentine U-23 team wears Le Coq Sportif apparel during the Olympics, while his players are outfitted by Adidas in matches.
This is because Le Coq is the official technical sponsor of the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA), and according to Olympic regulations, the coaching staff and team staff must wear their committee’s apparel, unlike the players who can wear their federation’s (AFA) gear while competing.
This also occurs in other sports. For example, hockey teams use Under Armour and handball teams use CO7, but all coaching staff wear Le Coq clothing from the COA.
