Uber acquired the naming rights of a Brazilian club

The ride-hailing app capitalized on the name coincidence and signed a sponsorship deal with Uberlândia EC of Serie D.

The club will now be called UberLÁNDIA EC, meaning its official name changes only in specific capital letters to make the brand the focal point.

The original name has no connection to the company; instead, it is taken from the city of the same name in the state of Minas Gerais. "Uberlândia" is a combination of Latin words meaning "fertile land."

To promote its first intervention as a naming sponsor, Uber changed its social media profile picture for one day, displaying the club's crest.

The agreement has an initial duration of one season, during which the club will feature the brand's logo on the front of the jersey, and Uber will provide the name for the training center.
