The International Supercup awards the same prize as the AFA Professional League
River Plate and Talleres de Córdoba face off for a $500,000 prize, the same amount that Vélez Sarsfield received for winning the Professional League.
In the case of the League, the amount was granted by AFA using funds allocated by CONMEBOL for South American league champions. For the International Supercup, the prize comes from sponsor money and the host venue’s organization—Emirates hosted the first edition, while Paraguay is hosting this time.
To put the amount in perspective, just for participating in the CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage (which Vélez, River, and Talleres will do this year), clubs receive $6 million—12 times the reward for winning the Professional League or the International Supercup.
