LaLiga would lose a million dollar figure due to the possible cancellation of the 2019-2020 season
The momentary suspensions of some championships in Europe due to the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) will strongly affect economically the leagues and clubs of the old continent. According to the Palco 23 page, LaLiga would have losses close to 678 million euros in the event that football does not return in this 2019-2020 season.
LaLiga Santander would not receive revenues of approximately 610 million euros, while LaLiga SmartBank (second division) will lose 67 million. Given this drop, the clubs will take measures to see how to pay the salary costs to employees, since they are fixed costs that the clubs have.
In addition to the sale of players, television rights is currently one of the most important economic income for clubs. It is at this point that the loss for LaLiga increases. Palco 23 affirms that there will be a cut of 550 million euros in the event that the current season does not resume, when there are still 10 dates to play in both tournaments.
The second big drop would be the income from ticket sales and season tickets. The calculation approximates a loss of 41.4 million euros (38.8 million in LaLiga Santander and 2.6 million in LaLiga SmartBank). In the case of sold tickets, the clubs must return the corresponding amount for the dates that are not carried out. The first division would have a decrease of 78 million, while in the second category it would be 10 million.
All these numbers, which can become possible losses for the clubs, generated an alarm in the Spanish clubs after learning of the measure of the Royal Spanish Football Federation to temporarily suspend all their competitions.
