Botafogo’s “Millionaire” Tournament
After being crowned champions in the CONMEBOL Libertadores final, “Fogão” secured a financial prize of $23 million, the largest in the competition’s history.
Previously, the club had received money for each stage it advanced. Botafogo earned $500,000 for passing the second preliminary round, $600,000 for the third preliminary round, nearly $4 million in the group stage ($1 million for each home match + $330,000 for each victory), $1.25 million for reaching the Round of 16, $1.7 million for the quarterfinals, and $2.3 million for the semifinals.
Adding all the prizes, the club collected a total of $33,340,000 USD.
