The World Cup achieves record numbers of television audience
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 achieves records and every day reaches more viewers with high numbers. A clear example of the situation was the dispute between Japan and Costa Rica where it reached the figure of 36.67 million, exceeding the number of people who watched the match against Germany by more than 10 million and was 74% higher than the average for first round in the previous edition of the tournament.
Continuing in Asia, in the Republic of Korea 11.14 million people watched the opening date of the competition against Uruguay. Broadcasting saw a 97% increase compared to Brazil's numbers in 2014. Fans in Europe also made an important mark as 65% of people watched Spain against Hansi flick in one of the biggest matches expected with a total of 11.9 million.
In the Americas, the English-language coverage of the United States' match against England was the most watched men's soccer match on US television, with a peak of 19.65 million viewers on FOX. The following day Telemundo's broadcast in the US was the most-watched international tournament group stage in history and the second-biggest of any stage.
In Argentina, the numbers against Mexico for the second date of Group C were 8.48 million; delivering an incredible 81.3% audience share. The show's audience was the highest of the tournament so far in the country and 5% more than against Saudi Arabia and the average audience of the first phase of the 2018 edition.
