La Liga becomes a sponsor of the David Cup
At the beginning of 2018, the ITF (International Tennis Federation) announced the evolution of the Davis Cup dispute through the agreement with Kosmos. Founded and chaired by Gerard Piqué, the company obtained the rights of the competition for the next 25 years in exchange for 3 billion euros, and modified the form of dispute, since the "World Group" will be developed in a week and in a city.
Debuting this year in Madrid, the new Davis Cup seeks to attract the leading figures of world tennis and turn it into the "Fifth Grand Slam". But also aims to give a new image to the contest from the point of view of Sports Marketing and the first ally that sum is La Liga.
For the first time the Spanish contest will occupy the category of sponsor. Having reached an agreement with ITF and Kosmos for the next four years, La Liga is betting that this renewed Davis Cup will allow it to link with a market that is foreign to football and through the image of the figures that dispute the Iberian tournament win new fans.
