AFA fears sanctions from FIFA and CONMEBOL over the Sports PLCs
The governing body of Argentine football issued a statement regarding the national government’s intervention through DNU 70/23.
AFA expresses concern about possible sanctions from FIFA and CONMEBOL (which could include disaffiliation) for violating their statutes.
The violation would involve state intervention to force AFA to change its statutes to allow the entry of sports joint-stock companies as members.
FIFA and CONMEBOL responded to the Argentine Football Association, supporting its stance to maintain autonomy and its own statutes, with clubs retaining the legal status of civil associations.
