Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium to break FIFA regulations

One of the key venues for the 2026 World Cup will be allowed to display its primary sponsor, despite strict tournament guidelines normally prohibiting it.

FIFA regulations typically mandate that stadiums must "remove any commercial identification of any kind," applying to both naming rights and physical signage.

The Atlanta venue argued that removing or covering the Mercedes-Benz logo on the exterior roof would cause millions of dollars in structural damage, as the branding is integrated into retractable panels made of "air-inflated malleable plastic material."

According to The New York Times, stadium officials engaged in 18 months of negotiations with FIFA before finally securing a rare exception to the rule.

Other U.S. venues impacted by these clean-site rules include SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles), Hard Rock Stadium (Miami), Lumen Field (Seattle), AT&T Stadium (Dallas), NRG Stadium (Houston), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), MetLife Stadium (New York/New Jersey), and Levi's Stadium (San Francisco).
